FAQ

1. CAN YOU RENT THE ENTIRE HOUSE? CAN YOU RENT BY THE FLOOR?

Yes, and yes. The Howard Hardy House sleeps 22 total. See the descriptions of the various suites for more detail about the guest capacity for the individual suites. As availability allows, we can be flexible in the rental of any combination of suites to meet the needs of our guests.

2. DO ALL THE ROOMS CONNECT?

All suites have their own separate entrances, but can be made ‘common’ and accessible to the others. Exception: The “Backside Suite” is a unit unto itself, but is connected to the rest of the house by an exterior balcony walkway.

3. WHERE DO I PARK?

Parking in downtown Louisville can sometimes be a challenge, especially with the construction of the Omni and the renovation of the Louisville Downtown Convention center.

There are two (2) designated parking spaces in the rear of the building that we make available exclusively for loading and unloading, and for extended use of our larger groups. There is also metered street parking available immediately in front of the building, however this parking is not available during rush ‘hour’ from 3 to 6 pm Monday through Friday.

The most convenient parking available for overnight guests can be found one block south in the surface parking lot of the YMCA (555 South 2nd Street) for $3 daily and in the YMCA garage for $7 daily. Other parking options can be found within walking distance.

4. ARE THE SUITES EQUIPPED WITH BATHROOM ACCOUTERMENT, HAIR DRYERS, IRONS/IRONING BOARD, ETC.?

Yes. Every unit is equipped with a Kuerig coffee maker, and complimentary coffee and creamer is provided.

The smaller suites have mini-fridges stocked w/ complimentary water. The larger suites are equipped with full sized refrigerators, microwaves, and kitchen and barware.

For large groups, whole house rentals, and extended stays we can arrange to stock your fridge and assist with arranging catering for your stay. Contact our manager to discuss options and prices.

6. ARE ANY OF THE UNITS DISABILITY ACCESSIBLE/ADA APPROVED?

Yes, the 1st floor back unit, the Single Barrel Suite, is ADA configured and approved.

7. ARE THERE SMOKE DETECTORS IN THE ROOMS?

8. ARE THERE LAUNDRY FACILITIES ON SITE FOR THE USE OF THE GUESTS?

Generally, no. But service can be arranged for large groups renting the whole house.

Generally we have a strict cancellation policy for whole house rentals. Our cancellation policy with regard to individual suite rentals is more flexible if cancellation occurs outside of one week’s time. Contact our manager for more detail.

10. I AM A LIGHT SLEEPER. WILL I HEAR GUESTS IN OTHER SUITES?

Know thyself. We have outfitted every suite with pleasant ‘white noise’ sound machines, and we have made every effort during our renovation to insulate the suites from noise in other parts of the building and outside.

That said, the Howard Hardy House is located in downtown Louisville and thus subject to the action and buzz of downtown life. If you have experienced trouble in the past sleeping at a bed and breakfast or in active households generally, you might want to consider an option better able to accommodate your sensitivities.

11. I HAVE TROUBLE MOVING AROUND AND STAIRS ARE A PROBLEM FOR ME. SHOULD I STAY AT THE HOWARD HARDY HOUSE?

The Howard Hardy House has two (2) ground floor suites that are accessible without ascending or descending stairs. The bathrooms of both are spacious, and the Single Barrel Suite is ADA compliant.

That said, there is not an elevator, nor 24 hour staff to assist or support you. If you feel that this is a concern for you, you might want consider making accommodations at an establishment better suited to meet your individual needs.

14. CAN I BRING MY PET(S)?

15. ARE EXTRA GUESTS ALLOWED? IF SO, WHAT IS THE COST?

The suites are priced in part according to the number of guests a suite can comfortably accommodate. We ask that you respect these guidelines and do not attempt to overcrowd your room with additional guests. Hopefully you can find a suite, or combination of suites, that meet your needs.

17. WHAT IS THE BEST UNIT FOR LONG-TERM RENTALS?

That depends. If you plan to do your own cooking during your stay, you may want to consider staying in the Single Barrel Suite, which is outfitted with a full stove, range, and kitchen. If you intend to take advantage of all of Louisville’s excellent dining options (you’ll never be able to experience them all), you might want consider an extended stay in the Longhunter Suite. It is the most spacious for the number of guests it accommodates, and it features separate kitchen, living room, and bedroom areas. The Homestretch and Colonel suites are also suited for extended stays.

18. WHICH UNIT HAS THE MOST ACCOMMODATING KITCHEN?

If your larger group intends to whip up a meal or needs a full kitchen to accommodate its catering needs or home brought eats, you will probably want to be sure to include the Single Barrel Suite as a part of your booking.
